Bounty Program | South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks

Nest Predator Bounty Program

Species Included: These primary nest predators – raccoons, striped skunks, badgers, opossums, and red fox.

Time Period: An individual can trap these five species year-round.  The bounty program will run during the nesting season of April 1 – August 31 (unless a cap of $500,000 occurs first) for the potential increased nest success of pheasants and ducks.

Raccoon, striped skunk, badger, opossum, and red fox are the eligible species for this program. The nest predator bounty program begins April 1, 2019, and will conclude August 31, 2019 – unless the $500,000 cap is reached first. This is a South Dakota resident-only program.

Participants will receive $10 per tail for the following species outlined above. Participants must submit the tail bone and entire tail of these species to receive payment. Participants may submit up to $590 worth of tails per household.

“Cool Product
Went hunting last Saturday night. I recently got the DC1000 and mounted it to my Bushmaster AR with a Simmons 44Mag scope. Dropped a pig like a rock at 140yds.! Picture was good and clear. IR light will easily reach 200 yds. I was kinda nervous at that distance since I hadn’t shot anything with the DC1000 yet, but it worked like a charm. Just a little weird aiming with the screen as opposed to looking through the scope. Waiting to put it on my 22-250, but going to have to trim the rubber down so bolt handle will clear to reload. If you don’t have at least a 1/2? clearance between bolt handle and scope, prior to mounting camera, you will have difficulty reloading. Would be really good if it came with a hard case and a metal key, instead of a plastic one, to tighten hose clamp on camera. If you’re going to move it from one gun to another you may want to purchase a second picatinney mount so it doesn’t take as long to switch it over. Otherwise, it’s a really cool product that works as advertised. Customer service is awesome. Had some operating issues and a battery charger issue in the beginning, but Henry was extremely helpful and resolved them in a hurry. 4 out of 5 stars due suggested improvements.”  Schneider

“What a great idea – Thanks Henry. Got my first chance to use this at a hunting preserve for a night hog hunt. Was able to select the biggest hog out of 12 in the corn field as if it were day time. Shot a plus 200 pound sow at over 200 yards and dropped it on the spot. Came home and ordered me a DC1000 system for myself and Henry gave me two extra batteries to boot. I have used it on my Savage 30-06 and my Mission crossbow with about 10 minutes to move it and have it working. Awesome customer service Henry.” Rufus M.

South Dakota begins predator bounty program despite opposition, questions

But the program began on Monday using the state’s existing coyote bounty rule, and as of Thursday evening, 26 people had turned in a total of 300 predator tails, according to GFP staff. In the new bounty program, the state will pay $10 per tail for raccoon, striped skunk, opossum, badger and red fox. The program is open from April 1 to Aug. 31 or until the cap of $500,000 is reached, whichever occurs first. The program is open to only South Dakota residents and each household can receive a maximum of $590 for the tails…

Utah Division of Wildlife Resources

The Utah Coyote Bounty Reporter smartphone application will be available in 2019.  Utah pays a $50 bounty to hunters for every coyote they harvest.

After June 30, 2019, you must use the app to submit coyotes for compensation. The app will not remove the requirement to check in the scalp and lower jaw at a designated check-in station.

You can use paper compensation forms or the app to submit claims from now until June 30, 2019. We will no longer accept paper compensation forms beginning July 1, 2019.

How do I use the app?

We will post detailed instructions about how to use the Utah Coyote Bounty Reporter app as soon as it’s released.

How to Use Kestrel Ballistics Meters to Hunt Predators and Varmints

You can’t control the weather on your hunt, but you can plan around it for success. Kestrel Weather Meters can give you a heads up on ground conditions to help you decide if you should head out with your calls or stay home.

Wind and weather influence animal activity and movement in different ways. Predatory animals such as coyotes are highly intelligent and adaptable animals, making them more difficult to hunt than other types of game. Even the smallest varmints such as squirrels, rabbits, and feral hogs pose their own challenges to hunters of every skill level. The good news is that being prepared and staying a step ahead of these animals can help improve your hunting success no matter the time of year. The Kestrel 2700 gives you all of the environmental data and ballistics calculations you need to make it a long-range one-shot hunt.

Hunters turn in nearly 40 coyotes during Tunkhannock hunt

TUNKHANNOCK — Courtdale resident Jack Roberts knows the excitement that comes with harvesting a deer or bear, but it doesn’t compare with what he achieved on Sunday morning.

Roberts, who was hunting in Hanover Township, shot a 34-pound coyote after attracting it with an electronic call. He was was one of 665 hunters participating in the three-day Northeast Regional Coyote Hunt, which concluded on Sunday.

Clemson researchers work to understand impact of coyotes on our state’s deer population

Clemson University researchers began trapping and fitting coyotes with GPS collars in December.

CLEMSON – Coyotes have a nasty reputation among deer hunters in South Carolina, and Clemson University researchers are working to determine just how much of that notoriety they deserve.

Deer are a prominent game species in the state, both economically and culturally, and populations are rapidly falling – down 30 percent since 2002, according to the S.C. Department of Natural Resources – while coyote populations are on the rise.

Wild pigs invade the Tampa Bay area

 – A pun-filled pig post is making the rounds on Facebook after Tampa police took a photo of wild hogs out for a stroll near a New Tampa gas station early Friday morning.

While it seems wild and funny to see them in that setting, some wildlife experts said they are getting a call a week about pigs bulldozing neighborhoods over the past year.
